Welcome to the Odd Socks Band Website

The Odd Socks are -:

       Dave... Accordion .

Dave travelled to Italy by train to buy his 96 bass double cassotto Fantini accordion . He met Signor Fantini and was given a guided tour of the Fantini factory.  Cassotto is an Italian word meaning 'box';  it is also  referred to as "tone chamber". The reeds that are placed in this chamber have a far more mellow and rich tone

To see a video of how a Fantini accordion is made click here

Dave has played accordion for about 25 years and has played in other bands in Shropshire including

-- Wild Edric -Castle B band --Shropshire Union--

 Rupert... Fiddle

Being Rupert he had to go one better and travel to China to buy his fiddle. Follow this link to see his trip.  A great player he is still a member of the famous Castle B Band which has been about for 30 years.

 Izzy..Guitar whistles flute

Versatile Izzy plays lots of instruments but is our main rhythm man for most of the time.

A brilliant guitar player, he also plays whistles flute and all kinds of pipes.  From Scotland, he is still a member of the Sound of Islay Ceilidh Band but only plays with them on odd occasions and once a year in Portugal on an annual booking.

 Margaret.. Caller

The most important job in the band falls to Margaret who does a fantastic job organising all the dances.

Her pet phrase is "Come on chooks" which soon gets everybody on the floor. A great lady who two years ago cycled all the way to Zutphen in Holland, our twin town, with her partner Terry - and all the way back.  (She didn't bring any instruments back though.)

  Ann... Tambourine

As well as playing tambourine, Ann drives us home after we have had a few drinks. A very valuable member of the band.

Hi Dave,

I just wanted to send a big 'thank you' from all my family. We had a great time on Saturday and I thought you coped very well with a sometimes difficult audience!! I thought the band were brilliant and lots of people asked where we found you. I will certainly be recommending you to people. Many of us could have danced for a few hours more!!

Thanks again,

Emily

Dear Dave
I just wanted to thank you and the rest of the Oddsocks very much indeed for such great entertainment on Saturday night.
Everyone was up reeling and it was all down to you guys and the atmosphere you created!
Thanks again for making it such a great night for us all
Emily

Just to say thank you very much for a great evening's music and dance. Hope
you all had a good time as well. all the best, Paul

Dear Dave

I thought the evening went very well thank you and everyone enjoyed it!  I liked the way you structured the evening - a dance, then a musical  break - so people could catch there breath in-between dances. Maggie was brilliant and everyone was talking about her days afterwards - they said  she had made the night!  Her approach to people was great; with humour and
encouragement, not that I gave people much change to sit down!   Everything I requested was accommodated and your performance was very good and I would certainly recommend the band. I also thought it was very good value for
money considering you travelled a far distance and played until 1am.

Please thank the rest of the member of the band.

Best Wishes
Cath Smith
